What is the zeta potential in interface science theory?
Zeta potential varies depending on the type and concentration of ions in the solution and other surrounding environmental factors.
Particles with a negative charge are surrounded by ions with a positive charge, which is the opposite. Additionally, they are enveloped by a diffusion layer where both positive and negative ions are mixed, and these two layers together are referred to as the electric double layer. Moreover, when an electric field causes the particles to move and shear forces are applied, a boundary interface forms between the ions that move separately from the particles and the ions that accompany the particles within the diffusion layer. This boundary interface is called the "slip plane," and the potential at this plane is referred to as the "zeta potential."
